My testimony contained 11 data sources that were made available to the House committee the day before my testimony.
Furthermore, I invested 25 minutes downloading datapoints form those sources (critical, some never heard or revealed before)—much of it from compiling and arranging information from the state’s Coronavirus website.
Yet, two things happened.
First, the more raucous questions (which I attribute to political theater more than meaningful debate) either blatantly ignored what was presented or minimized the value of data transparency (keep in mind these challenges come from people you elected, pay and have authority over).
Second, there was a full display of two sides—one that wants you to have pertinent information (highlighted, discussed, and not buried) that will help you shape your thoughts, feelings and behavior regarding this virus; the other side, to use a sports analogy, wants you to blindly trust the suppressed data of a team that has a batting average of .000 (zero, zip, zilch).
The latter faction found nebulous examples and tried to use trickery to paint your request for the whole truth to be presented front-and-center as superfluous, extraneous and silly.
Yes, Rep Greenspan, legislation may have to be amended—but that’s your job. No, Rep Russo HIPPA and other regulations are not an excuse for the state believing 22% of deaths came from nursing homes (when that total was 79%) and not laser-focusing on the area of gravest danger.
No, Representative Kelly, testing is not an issue; the question is a distraction that diverts attention from the powerful data that was released—OSU modelers cannot pinpoint the effect of DeWine’s policy on flattening the curve; a sworn statement backed by statistical evidence points to the fact that the viral velocity began to decelerate and decline as far back as March; the State continues to highlight cumulative numbers to fearmonger and still estimates a spike 4X what what’s possible; we have numbers reported that are bloated and inaccurate and creating panic.
Yesterday was very telling. And I know you were watching—they do too. That is why they were so stirred.
It is such an honor to represent you; and I genuinely mean that. We have come so far from being heard and respected, it’s time the people are heard and responded to by leaders who are there to represent us.
