We are in the process of hiring an estimated 1,800 "disease detectives"/contact tracers.

The .csv information you can extract from the State's COVID site is tricky, changes daily and has obvious data dumps...but if you parse, you can find key data points.

What we know is that 90%+ of cases infect the age range 60-80 years old. We also know that deaths in senior congregate settings are extremely high--and that's with numbers only after mid April (keep in mind we started handling this in March), which means the number we do have may be double, if not higher.

We also know that data from China (which may be hard to trust), Italy, New York, Sweden (just a few of the many) showed a clear pattern that this virus is deadly to people with heightened age, existing conditions and ESPECIALLY in senior congregate living situations.

We are eight weeks in. We have built test capacity. We could knock out testing all 215,000 people associated with senior living facilities in less than two weeks. Yet...

We continue to burn time talking about masks, standing up a program for contact tracing, and putting peer groups together so the Government can decide who can open and when (and because of the sheer size of the task it sometimes feels like we are throwing darts blindfolded and forcing businesses that SHOULD be open now to sit on the sidelines).

Call it what you want...but not dealing with the overwhelming data, and continuing to fear monger on anecdotal & unproven 'medical' links, is unacceptable. I'll leave it at that.

But not one of us who have looked into this virus since day one is surprised by its attributes...what we are surprised by is the utter neglect to deal with the "80/20 part" of it...we drag our feet congregate living; we refuse to fill the pipe with a $13 treatment...

Instead we're working to tap into a global solution that has vaccination, contact tracing and a more robust role for health departments in government as the focus and end goal...instead of solving the damn problem.

Am I the only one who sees this? I pray not.
